How to Watch Downton Abbey Season 5 episodes in the U.S./America/UK!

watchdowntonabbeyseason5inusTHIS METHOD WORKED FOR SEASON 4!!!

Hi Downton Abbey Fans!

Season 5 is almost here!

I know everyone is excited about the new season (hopefully) starting September 21, 2014 at 9pm in the UK! Hopefully this season is filled with less sadness, no death, and lots of romance!

Thanks so much for sticking with me these last few years for season 3 and season 4.   I have already been receiving SO many emails and messages from you guys anticipating Season 5.  For each of these seasons, I have done no more than provide a place where you can find all of the links in one location.  The videos are not hosted by my blog and I have no control over them.  I am happy to help with whatever I can.  I plan to post the links again on my facebook page as well as some Downton inspired recipes and cocktails on Instagram!

ANYWAY, you guys really just want to know how to watch, right?

**PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be patient with each option.  Not every option will work for every person simply because of your specific computer/setup.  Try each option more than once until you find one that works!  Please test the Tunnelbear option before Downton premiere Day**

How to watch in the U.S. (5 options!):

Option 1:

This option includes any extra videos and behind the scenes option on ITV!

Here’s what you need to do to get Downton Abbey to play on your PC:

1. Download Tunnel Bear here for free. You will need to pay the $4.99/month to get enough data for the season unless you follow their system of tweeting for more free data storage .  No biggie in the long run to pay for a few months! Tunnel Bear is a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which is changing your IP address to reflect that of the UK.  Think of it as a giant antenna that reaches across the globe.  Technology is amazing, right?

2. Confirm Tunnel Bear by e-mail.

3. Once you are signed in to Tunnel Bear, turn the knob you see to “on”.  It will say “connected”.

4. Now, set the country option to “United Kingdom”.  Your computer will now be compatible with the region showing Downton Abbey. Yay!

5. Go to https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/

You’ll need a postal code to access the ITV player on the website. I used the code “HP5 2US”  Use any of the ones on this list.  If one doesn’t work, try another.

6.  To watch the shows that have already aired Season 5 episodes, go to the ITV website’s Downton Abbey page:

https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/downton-abbey/

To watch the show live as it airs in the UK at 1pm Pacific Standard Time, go here to watch the live streaming ITV player: https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/

6. Make sure you turn Tunnel Bear to “off” when not watching Downton as you want your computer to know which country it is really in. :)

7.  Hopefully, you’re smiling and watching Downton!  If not, “like” and check my facebook page here for loads of questions answered, as well as the comments below.

Option 2:

Watch by clicking below in the questionably legal way click here from Watch TV Series.  When you click the link, don’t click the play triangle in the middle of the player screen. Simply close the “x” symbol and click the play button on the bottom of the player, right below the window you view the show in. If it’s asking you to set up an account, close the window and start over (you’ve clicked through to an ad). Enjoy and please SHARE!:

Option 3:

Some previous links are/will be available from the ITV website but you obviously have to have the ability to watch the player using options 1 or 2 above or clicking here:

Downton Abbey  iTV Player

Option 4:

Download this ITV player automator here.  I tried it and it worked.

In the meantime…

  • AWESOME! Thank you so much!! I had no idea it was live again in the UK right now, this is great news!

Thank you so much for posting this. Downloaded Tunnel Bear last year after reading about it on your page. Hope you are able to stream the episodes after they air in the UK. I relied on those if I had to miss them live using Tunnel Bear. Thanks again, you are a gem.

  • You are a genius, and thanks to you, I was able to watch successfully last year when it made its debut in the UK for Series 4. I am so excited you are sharing again. I’m sharing your post with my blog readers tomorrow. ;) Thanks so much!

  • All right, thanks! I’ll be holding onto that ITV website address!

  • You definitely got me hooked. Found your blog (has it been two years now?) and through it I had a binge watching fest. I even got to see last year’s season in September way before my friends did in January!
Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to pin Downton inspired decor.

There isn’t a list of postal codes to choose from on that link above. Any thoughts? Am I missing something?

    Thanks,

It Will not let me register????

Hi! You saved me last year.. I looked and looked today for your website and FINALLY found it! Just an FYI MediaHint isn’t offered anymore.

Can’t wait to try the other few options! :) Happy Downton Day!

In the process of setting up the UKIPVPN.COM VPN it asks for user name and password. What am I supposed to use? Any idea? I don’t see any way to get a user name and password for the VPN.

I’d love to help! Could you be more specific. I’m not familiar with the method you’re talking about ;) Tunnel Bear is the best option.

  • Tery

Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode! :)

  • Cindy Auler

Where is this X I’m supposed to close? All I get is ads!

    • Bon

It’s very tiny! If there is no “x”, simply click on the lower play button instead of the one in the middle of the player screen. ;)

  • Susan

Hello! It seems as though option 2 is not available for non Windows users..is there a way to fix that?

  • Maya

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!!!

    Hi there,

First off, love that we have this opportunity to watch season 5. Everything always works perfectly; however, I’m having trouble accessing episode 7. It’s saying that I need to download “Media Downloader” to watch the episode. There is nothing I can do to skip the download. Everything I click brings me to strange websites or a page to apparently download the player. I’m a little nervous to download the player, though. Any tips on how to get around this obstacle? Appreciate any insight or advice!

    Thanks!
    Maria

They seem to do that in 1 of the episodes every year to get people to download the player. It’s a bummer! Have you tried using tunnel bear and going to the iTV website? That’s what I prefer…

  • Mimi

Many thanks from Canada,Bon, it is such a pleasure to see what is happening at DA at the same time the brits do!
Have you noticed how hard the british press is on season 5? I can’t believe the reviews and comments I read, they would try to kill it they could do no better.
Well, I, for one, still love it. The start was a bit slow at first, but now I can hardly wait until next week to see what is in store. And I will watch it again on PBS when it airs in january, that is for sure.

  • Susan

    Hi!

I’m having some trouble with option 2 for episode 8. I try to play the episode but then something comes up in some foreign language and all these ads in this foreign language are taking up the screen and the episode won’t load? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    • Bon

      Hi Susan!

Yes, the spammers are getting smart. ;) You can simply select another player number in the upper right portion of the website, above the player itself and to the right. Select a different number then wait for it to load. You can also refresh the page and see if that helps! Enjoy!

Do you have a way for us to watch the latest season of Call the Midwife?

  • liz

option 4 is a bit vague..download the player (in the mean time)..then what???? option 2 was working, now it says its blocked by vk.com??!? UUUUGGGGHHHHH! Does no one have the ability to properly load a season thats been out in the UK for months???? Utterly disappointing!

    • Bon

Hi Liz! The videos are working fine on my end. Have you tried a different video number in the top right hand corner of the site where the links are? Each video will have different options but you can always keep trying numbers. ;)

  • Ashley

it seems that the content has been blocked for copyright infringement on all of the episodes under option 2, and itv is only showing the very last episode of season 5. Anyone know of any other ways to binge watch season 5 in the US? Sadly I watched episode 1 through the links for option 2, and when I went to watch episode 2 they all seemed to have been blocked. :(
